PETALING JAYA: The education ministry has no plans to implement online classes if schools are temporarily closed due to the current hot weather.

Deputy education director-general Ahmad Rafee Che Kassim said if schools are to be closed, replacement days would be suggested by the respective state education directors.“The ministry’s guidelines state that if schools are closed, their may need to be replaced,” Berita Harian reported him as saying. “The state education directors will inform of the appropriate days… There will be no online classes.

Rafee said the procedure for school closures was based on the ministry’s guidelines which stated that school administrators would be allowed to cease classes if temperatures exceeded 37 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days.“The school can apply to the registrar or the state director to close the school, and they will issue approval immediately,” he said. “The ministry’s recommendation is that schools monitor the health of students and teachers.
