SEREMBAN: Police have yet to start investigating how some 2,000 pigs infected with African Swine Fever (ASF) were moved from 19 unlicensed farms in Port Dickson, as no report has been lodged.

Negri Sembilan police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Ruslan Khalid said the matter would be investigated once a report was lodged."As of now, we haven't received any report. We will look into this," he told reporters after launching the state-level Ops Selamat on Wednesday in conjunction with the coming Hari Raya celebration.

On Monday , Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the state government would take legal action after pigs from unlicensed farms in Kg Baru Tanah Merah Site A, Port Dickson, were believed to have been moved out of the area without the knowledge of the relevant authorities. He also directed the state exco in charge of the matter and the Veterinary Services Department to investigate and lodge a police report.

He said the state government was concerned that the animals might cause a possible spread of ASF in other states.Aminuddin said the pigs were not supposed to be moved till the department had completed its inspection and confirmed that they were free of ASF infection. The department, he said, should have been more aware as it was tasked to ensure no animals were transferred from the affected farms.

The media recently reported that the department had confirmed that ASF was detected at a farm in Kampung Baru Tanah Merah Site A on April 9 and the cost to cull 273 infected pigs on April 13 was RM20,000.
