PETALING JAYA: The hefty fines imposed on lorry operators, particularly for overloading, should be reviewed by the authorities, says the Pan-Malaysia Lorry Owners Association.

Its president Datuk Ng Koong Sinn said that at present the Road Transport Department enforcement officers were using the provisions under the Land Public Transport Agency Act against offenders.

He said one of the offenders was slapped with a fine of RM40,000, raising much concern among association members. Ng said the association was aware of the stance and good intention in imposing penalties against offenders who overloaded for the safety of other road users, as well as to avoid damaging the roads.
