GEORGE TOWN: The National Youth Council had expressed disappointment over the Youth and Sports Ministry's decision to limit the membership of youth organisations to individuals aged 15 to 30 years old.

National Youth Council vice-president and Penang president Lim Swee Bok said there should not be a hurry to amend the previous 15 to 40 years old age bracket.

"While we welcome such a move to enable more youth to participate in youth organisations, it should be discussed with all parties. "Furthermore, a longer time period should be given for all youth organisations to adjust to the new ruling rather than putting it into effect on Jan 1. Lim gave the example of Constitutional amendments needed to lower the voting age to 18, which took a long time. The move to lower the age limit was made by the Federal Government in Parliament on Nov 17.
