PORT KLANG: Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin claims he is more concerned about national security than the possibility of a general election taking place soon.

claims he is more concerned about national security than the possibility of a general election taking place soon.

"For me, I am just a normal Home Minister who is taking care of the security and safety of the people."My main agenda is that the people are confident of the leadership of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the Perikatan Nasional government which has a stronger coalition that the previous government," said Hamzah.

Hamzah, who is also the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia secretary-general, said this after witnessing the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency receive two new patrol crafts on Monday in the government's initiative to make Malaysian coastal security as good as international coast guards. On the issue of registering the Perikatan coalition with the Registrar of Societies before the next general election, Hamzah said that it is in the works.

On July 4, Azmin, the International Trade and Industry Minister, was quoted as saying in a Sin Chew Daily report that the Perikatan government led by Muhyiddin had what it takes to call for a general election anytime, as it had overcome political, economic, and public health crises."What's more important is for all parties to be fully ready and united in facing the polls," he had said during the Penggerak Komuniti Negara dinner in Johor Baru.

Rumours of a looming general election have been making the rounds as party leaders from both the ruling and opposition coalitions say that they are preparing their grassroots machineries for a snap election anytime.
