National Farmers Organisation to create national poultry stockpile, says govt

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Industries Ahmad Hamza says the move to build a poultry stockpile is to meet the needs of consumers and the country so as not to face a chicken shortage, especially during festive seasons. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, July 16, 2022.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Industries Ahmad Hamzah said permission was also given to several cooperatives under the Farmers’ Organisations Authority to import chicken from plants in countries that have been licensed and certified by the Malaysian government. “Currently, there is no approved permit so anyone can import chicken but they need to have an Import Permit issued by the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department for the purpose of biosecurity control at the country’s borders,” he told reporters in Ayer Keroh, Malacca today after the opening ceremony of the Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen’s Day state celebration which was officiated by Chief Minister Sulaiman Md Ali.
