KUALA LUMPUR: Lawyer Ashraf Abdul Razak testified at the High Court here that he received a cheque for RM2.5mil from corporate figure Habibur Rahman in 2015.

He told the court that he was Habibur's lawyer and had served him for 15 years."At the same time, I was involved with Habibur and his company Fuelsubs House Sdn Bhd, which tendered to manage the fuel subsidy," he testified during a cross examination by DPP Muhammad Saifuddin Hashim Musaimi before Justice Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali.

Ashraf is the 18th witness to testify at the High Court here on the eighth day of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's corruption trial, involving SRC International Sdn Bhd. In a cross examination later, by Najib's counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abudllah questioned Ashraf whether he knew that Habibur, who has a background in accounting, was also a political analyst, to which Ashraf replied yes.Najib faces seven charges involving RM42mil belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.

On July 4 last year, Najib claimed trial to a charge of abuse of power and three counts of criminal breach of trust linked to the 1MDB scandal.On Aug 8 last year, he appeared in court again and was charged with three counts of money laundering involving the same RM42mil.
