YANGON (Xinhua): Myanmar's estimated population has increased by 130,000 to 54.58 million in three months since latest statistics early this year, said a release from the Information Ministry on Thursday (April 2).

On Wednesday, the estimated population in Yangon region reached 8.39 million, followed by Mandalay region with 6.54 million and Shan state with 6.43 million, listed as top three regions and state with most population, the Information Ministry quoted population department's figures as saying.

The country's population registered 54.45 million in Jan 1 this year, according to the figures released by the population department under the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population earlier this year. Of them, females outnumbered males by 2.28 million as population of females registered 28.43 million while 26.15 million were males, according to the department's figures based on the statistics of the country's 2014 census. - Xinhua
