He refutes critics who say he objected to the airport during his time as Penang CM but supported it after becoming finance minister.

GEORGE TOWN: Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng today refuted those who claim his stance on the Kulim airport has changed since his time as chief minister of Penang, saying he has consistently maintained that any expansion of the Penang International Airport must be approved before the Kedah facility takes off.

He said the Penang government under his leadership had asked for PIA to be upgraded first, in the interest of not throwing a spanner into the development plans of other states. He said Putrajaya had approved the expansion plans for PIA from its current capacity of 6.5 million passengers per year to 16 million at a cost of approximately RM1.2 billion.

“After all, what is the problem with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad trying to develop his home state?”
