Ex-lecturer Lau Seck Yan is alleged to have stabbed her husband in the chest and abdomen at their home at the Rasah Kemayan Golf and Country Township on Jan 23.
PETALING JAYA: A former election candidate, accused of murdering her husband, stunned the High Court in Seremban after she told them that she was “channelling” the spirit of her dead husband for his testimony. Oriental Daily News reported that 56-year-old Lau Seck Yan had earlier sought permission from Justice Rohani Ismail to speak.“I am Poh Seng Hiap, the deceased. I am the one speaking in court.Rohani then reminded Lau that her trial had not commenced, pending the testimony of witnesses, and that Lau should not be making any statements regarding the case.
However, Lau continued to “channel her husband’s spirit” and ignore the instructions to repeat her claims of innocence.“You have to understand that my wife did not kill me. I am Poh Seng Hiap here. Why don’t you listen to me that my wife did not kill me. I was fated to die,” she was reported to have told the court.Lau, a former lecturer, was an independent candidate in the 2018 Port Dickson by-election.
She was charged with murdering her 55-year-old husband on Jan 23 at their home at the Rasah Kemayan Golf and Country Township between 3.30pm and 4.30pm.Rohani set the trial dates from March 3 to 7, and May 17 to 21, 2025.The judge explained that being the only criminal judge in Negeri Sembilan, her schedule was packed and the dates mentioned were the earliest available dates.
