MUMBAI: India's financial capital Mumbai has prohibited all types of domestic or foreign tours of people in the city organised by private tour operators or others till March 31 due to the Covid-19 (coronavirus) outbreak, as per orders issued by the city police on Sunday (March 15).

The order comes at the backdrop of Maharashtra state in western India accounting for 31 out of the total of 107 cases in India. Mumbai, which is the capital city of Maharashtra state, accounted for five of them.

However, if private tours operators are required to travel under exceptional circumstances, they may do so after clearance from Mumbai's Commissioner of Police, said a senior official. "Dear Mumbaikars - Let's stay calm & do the basics right. Maintain personal, office & home hygiene, avoid large gatherings & unnecessary travel. Keep fake news far & a doctor close. Be vigilant, don't panic," Mumbai's Police commissioner said in his tweet.

As part of precautionary measures, the state government on Friday had gone into a shutdown mode by issuing orders to close all schools, colleges, malls, swimming pools, gym and fitness centers, public places, cancellation of all public events, religious processions, among others, till March 31. - Xinhua/Asian News Network
