PEMECATAN Dr Mahathir Mohamad daripada jawatan pengerusi Bersatu merupakan satu strategi presiden parti itu, Muhyiddin Yassin untuk mengelakkan pilihan raya umum, kata pemimpin Umno. Timbalan Ketua Umno Johor Nur Jazlan Mohamad mendakwa perdana menteri itu berbuat demikian kerana mempunyai motif peribadi dan mahu memastikan Bersatu kekal berkuasa.
