PETALING JAYA: The advertising industry has brushed aside the notion that it is only hiring younger talents rather than the experienced and older ones as one of the ways to save costs.
“In the age debate, we’ve discovered that both the young and not so young can shine, when we’ve created the right environment and culture, ” she noted. She agrees that technology of advertising is evolving very fast and that some candidates with years of experience might not be relevant if their skills are not updated.
“Our primary retention strategy is our core value: commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, regardless of the age group. Inclusion and giving everyone a sense of belonging is one of the keys to retention. “It is inevitable that experienced “hands” like these move into more management roles rather than become day to day operatives. This is a natural progression as they will in turn train and nurture the younger set for succession.
“The era of master and slave is a long sailed ship. The step forward is inclusiveness. Also the older set needs to be ready for heartbreaks if they expect absolute loyalty from their younger colleagues, ” Mun said. Lee said the ad industry is constantly changing and to survive in the industry, one must continue to evolve to avoid being obsolete.
