KOTA KINABALU: The flood situation in Sipitang district is improving, with only one victim still remaining at the Dewan Mesapol relief centre on Saturday (May 21).

Prior to that, district Fire and Rescue Department personnel had evacuated families from affected villages namely Kampung Ranau-Ranau , Kg Tanjung Nipis , Kg Pantai , Kg Kaban and Kg Skim Sindumin from 9.50pm on Friday until the early hours on Saturday.

They were temporarily placed at the hall before returning home or leaving for their relatives’ homes. Heavy rains from Friday evening caused water level to rise at Mengalong River and Lukutan River, inundating nearby villages.
