PUTRAJAYA: More than 1,000 retired health care workers, from both the public and private sectors, have returned to serve on the front-lines in the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said they included 54 from the Covid ward, 65 specialists from private hospitals and over 1,000 nurses and medical officers. “But we would like more of those with experience working in the intensive care unit and medical wards and we will place them in certain areas.

“As for GPs and medical officers, we will place them in clinics or at non-Covid areas in the hospitals,” he said at a press conference here this evening.
