The much rumoured more affordable version of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 may be dropping support for the S-Pen.

Variants for what will likely be called the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 have made their rounds in the rumour mill, from more affordable versions to pricier ones. For the former, it looks like one tradeoff for the smaller price tag would be dropping support for the company's S-Pen stylus.

This comes via Korean news site ETNews, which also reports that the decision to make a more affordable version of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is caused by the company's desire to retain its top spot in foldables market share. And while it has held the position since 2019, the competition is catching up fast, citing a DSCC survey that predicts the South Korean tech giant losing the crown.

According to Tom's Guide, the Korean news outlet has made this claim last month, detailing it as removing the the digitiser, or the display layer that tracks a stylus' position. That being said, the latest report does not mention what other concessions will be made for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 in the name of price reduction. It's probably worth noting at this point that the company has denied plans of a mid-ranged foldable phone before.

Since such rumours of a more affordable, possibly even an FE mode, of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is persisting, removing stylus support makes a lot of sense. After all, the device doesn't come with an S-Pen out of the box anyway, and while it's definitely a nice to have, it's easy to imagine potential buyers not caring for it if it's not part of the initial package. But either way, the usual pinch of salt applies.
