MOHE mulls special leave for students to go home to vote

Deputy Higher Education Minister Mohammad Yusof Apdal says his ministry is considering granting university students and staff special leave so they can vote in their hometowns. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, July 6, 2023.

THE Higher Education Ministry will identify a suitable approach to let students and staff go home to vote in the August 12 state elections, its deputy minister Mohammad Yusof Apdal said. He said his ministry will discuss the matter to decide whether to provide special leave for them to fulfil their responsibility as voters.

“We will look at their needs ... for the staff and students,” he told a press conference after closing the International Innovation and Invention Competition Through Exhibition at Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Polytechnic in Jitra today. Yusof said although freedom was given to university students to participate in politics, they must be responsible and ensure it does not interfere with their studies.Related News
