LANGKAWI: Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) teams from Kedah and Perlis successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle five kilograms of drugs worth RM769,050 on Tuesday (July 14).

“The crew of a boat threw the drugs into the sea at about 3.1 nautical miles southwest of Pulau Singa Besar at 3.15am, ” said MMEA Kedah and Perlis operations director First Admiral Mohd Zawawi Abdullah.

Mohd Zawawi added that when the boat fled, one of the suspects on the boat threw an object into the sea. Mohd Zawawi said that the items were brought to the Bukit Malut Jetty in Langkawi for further investigation under Section 39 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. “The operation to trace the suspects is ongoing and we hope that if the public has information on this, they can contact the maritime operations centres in their states, ” he said.
