Michael Persius Ubu was charged with two money laundering offences amounting to more than RM 3.9mil and criminal breach of trust involving some RM15.5mil from the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority .
According to the charge sheet, Ubu had allegedly received RM1mil on July 25,2014 and RM2,960,000 between Nov 27,2015 and May 10,2016. Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Fadhly Mohamad Zamry urged for no bail to be offered due to the nature of the offence, also citing the risk of the accused absconding. Ubu’s lawyer Zahir Shah, however, said that since 2017, Ubu had been travelling the world with his wife after she retired and only recently returned to Sabah.
