Following objections by the Malaysian Medical Association, health minister Dzukefly Ahmad says suggestions for improvement will be presented. FMTNews Doctors

A proposed new law provides for a maximum penalty of RM3,000 fine, one year’s imprisonment, or both, should a doctor refuse to provide prescriptions on request.

Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said the matter will be reviewed and suggestions for improvement will be presented. The ministry has sought parliamentary approval of a proposed amendment to the Poisons Act 1952, to provide for patients’ requests for drug prescriptions from their doctors. The proposed amendment allows patients to decide where to fill their prescription, either at the doctor’s own clinic or at a pharmacy.
