JAKARTA: Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD on Sunday (April 5) has emphasised that the government has no plan so far to provide remission or parole for prisoners of corruption, terrorists and drug traffickers.

The government did adopt a policy of parole for prisoners to prevent further spread of Covid-19, but not for corruption convicts, terrorists and drug traffickers, Mahfud told a video press conference on Saturday evening.

"Last week there was indeed a decision to provide remission and parole for prisoners in general criminal offenses," he was quoted by Antara news agency as saying. Previously, Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly had planned to revise the government regulation along with the policy to release prisoners in the midst of the Covid-19 outbreak so as to include corruption inmates.

Regarding the discourse on the revision of the government regulation, Mahfud said he thought that the minister of law and human rights responded to proposals or aspirations from some people. - Xinhua/Asian News Network
