MIER chairman Kamal Salih says the cost of funds from the new proposal is much lower compared to others who want to raise bonds in order to finance the takeover.
MIER chairman Kamal Salih said the think tank is evaluating the feasibility of the proposed buy-out offer of RM50 billion from the Malaysian individual group.“We will bring the proposal to the government on behalf of the collaborating partners once it is ready,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a discourse themed “Shared Prosperity Economy: Lessons and Measures” here today.
“But the government can neither afford to buy back or let go of the stake due to the high investments made,” he said. “Our money overseas is to the tune of RM1 trillion, almost equivalent to our debt. If that money can be brought back, some of it could be used to take over some of these assets,” he said.
