PETALING JAYA: Mercy Malaysia’s new dedicated Covid-19 psychosocial support hotline for Sabahans will have psychologists speaking in the local dialect to better aid the locals there.

Mercy Malaysia Health Unit head Dr Mohammad Omar said the support hotline was an extension of its existing national helpline which was established in April.

“That is also the reason why we decided to set up the hotline there, ” he said, though noting he had not seen a surge of people utilising its hotline. “Out of the three lines, we usually receive about 40% to 50% of the calls from those with mental health issues, ” he said, adding that the cases were related to stress, anxiety and other related issues.
