MELAKA: Flood warning sirens which can also double up as public announcement systems will be installed in flood-prone areas in the state, says Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.

The Melaka Chief Minister said the decision to install the flood warning systems was reached during the weekly exco meeting on Wednesday .

“The system will be available in both urban and rural areas identified as flood-prone sites,” he said on Thursday . Sulaiman said the Irrigation and Drainage Department and the Local Government Unit under the Melaka Chief Minister’s office would coordinate the flood warning system. He said the system would also monitor river levels to enable residents to evacuate if rivers reach dangerous levels as well as numerical weather prediction.
