The hustle and bustle of seven villages there came to a grinding halt last Sunday after the government ordered the areas from Batu 21 to Batu 24 to be put under Enhanced Movement Control Order .
The EMCO was issued following a single steep increase of Covid-19 positive cases to 71 in the area, mostly involving students from Maahad Tahfiz An-Nabawiyyah in Batu 23.“I have lived here all my life and never have I experienced such quietness. My village has ‘transformed’ under EMCO. “If I see my neighbour, we will just say ‘hello’ and wave at each other, nothing more than that. We are very much minding our own business,” the 57-year-old told theJamal, who works as an administrative assistant, had been working from home since the first phase of the MCO was enforced on March 18. The second phase saw the order extended to April 14.
“This is one way we can help to curb the outbreak. I am glad that villagers are also adhering to the directive,” he said.Jamal said his family had enough food supply to last for several days. They were also assured that the Welfare Department would be providing them with necessities throughout the EMCO period.
