Zarina Zakria and her husband say they have to rely on odd jobs to pay for their household expenses.

Now, with the latest movement control order, their family is feeling the burn. The couple used to earn about RM4,000 a month together, driving schoolchildren in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur. The couple have eight children and struggle to make ends meet. Zarina said she has been relying on odd jobs to pay for household expenses.

“We can’t possibly just depend on government hand-outs. We had to find other sources of income to sustain ourselves. “If school closures persist without more targeted mechanisms to help us, a lot of school bus operators will have to close up shop because they would no longer be able to sustain their operational and maintenance costs.
