MCMC to sue Facebook parent Meta for not removing ‘undesirable content’ FMTNews FMTBusiness

Meta failed to remove undesirable content according to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission will be taking legal action against Meta for allegedly failing to remove “undesirable content” from Facebook. The “undesirable content” in question includes elements of defamation, impersonation, online gambling, scam advertisements, and aspects of race, royalty and religion, which is collectively known as 3R.

Despite reaching out to Meta, MCMC in a statement said the tech giant’s response was “sluggish and unsatisfactory.”According to MCMC, the move was crucial in guaranteeing accountability for cybersecurity. This comes on the heels of communications and digital minister Fahmi Fadzil’s meeting with online messaging platform Telegram last week.

During the meeting, Fahmi raised concerns over the proliferation of fraudulent, pornographic and criminal content on the app.Subscribe to our newsletter and get news delivered to your mailbox.
