To be held at Wisma MCA at Jalan Ampang on Saturday – the first day of Chinese New Year – the cocktail style event will do away with the usual round table and chair setup, allowing party leaders to mingle more freely with the guests, said secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon.
“Sofa seats will be provided for the VVIPs and banquet chairs for veterans, ambassadors and NGO leaders. Chong said the reason why the public and the VVIPs was segregated in MCA’s previous Chinese New Year open house was due to a need to adhere to the security protocols of government officials, as it was still part of the ruling coalition prior to GE14 in 2017.
According to Chong, MCA’s open house will start at 8.30am, where members of the public are encouraged to participate in programmes such as Chinese paper-cutting , calligraphy and knotting.
