KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) has fined AirAsia, AirAsia X and Malaysian Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd (MA Sepang) almost RM5mil in total.

AirAsia and AirAsia X were given a RM2mil fine each due to their continued charging of credit card, debit card and online banking processing fees separate from their base fare for the period between Aug 10 and Sept 11 last year.“This is the second time AirAsia and AirAsia X have been found not to be compliance with this MACPC requirement,” said Mavcom in a statement issued on Monday .

“As both AirAsia and AirAsia X have been found to contravene subparagraph 3 of the MACPC again - even after the imposition of financial penalty for their first non-compliance, Mavcom has decided to impose both a penalty of RM2mil each, being ten times the financial penalty imposed in Sept 2019, for the period from Aug 10 to Sept 11, 2019, as prescribed by Act 771,” said the commission.
