KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Malaya (UM) student union vice-president Yap Wen Qing should meet Datuk Dr Abdul Rahim Hashim to share any dissatisfaction he has with him, says Dr Maszlee Malik.

The Education Minister said that it would be better if Yap could meet the UM vice-chancellor instead of issuing a media statement.

Asked if action would be taken against the student, Dr Maszlee said that"we are not in Barisan Nasional's era". In his statement, Yap had called on Rahim to apologise to all Malaysians and resign because he had not solved problems at the UM campus. "This is an act that threatens the autonomy of a student because every student on campus has the right to explore a wide range of philosophies and ideas; they should not be dictated to follow specific narratives by the university.

Calls for UM Vice-Chancellor to resign over alleged racist remarksUM Student Union vice president Yap Wen Qing lashes out at Abdul Rahim Hashim for alleged racist statement at Malay Dignity Congress. Such swallow minded narrative from a vice chancellor of UM. He should be a beacon of excellence and not a racial bigot. Very sad that erudite people from UM resort to race politics. Indeed unfortunate to witness such narrow mindedness from an individual who is responsible to expand thinking and knowledge. Sad for UM and Malaysia. Even highly educated people still believe in racial harmony is a bad thing. How and he obtained his PhD? Who is his PhD supervisor?

Sabah PKR leaders worried over Salleh’s bid to join partyKOTA KINABALU: An air of uneasiness is being felt among Sabah PKR leaders as word spread that former federal minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak has applied to join the party. Takut Salleh rebut kuasa. Just reject this Najib supporter. An opportunist and extremist. Public enemy. PKR should not even entertain such a hypocrite, let alone considering and accepting him. Better worried since his acceptance, when it happens, may signal a 'position-deficit' 4 current PKR leaders in govt positions.
