Already handy with the sewing machine as she makes clothes for herself from second-hand garments, zero-waste advocate Felicity Eku of Penampang chose the Borneo pattern for her designs.
Felicity said that prior to making the reusable masks, she did some research to ensure that the World Health Organisation guidelines for reusable masks are followed. She said that she chose the"pua kumbu" pattern because of its aesthetic beauty, adding that she was coming up with new designs as people have been asking for different colours and plain masks.
"I joined some charity work in Kampung Radu Darat in Kota Marudu, and a friend said the Covid-19 situation also impacted the livelihood of the villagers. They were already poor before the pandemic, so I can't imagine life during Covid-19," she said.
