JOHOR BARU: A 20-year-old man was arrested by the police for stealing 36 powdered baby milk boxes and two cartons of beer cans worth RM1,500 at Jalan Tebrau, here.

Johor Baru OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Padzli Mohd Zain said the incident occurred at about 9.50pm on Wednesday , after a patrol car noticed a vehicle driven in a suspicious manner.

“Inspection inside the Perodua Axia found the items placed in the back passenger seat. The inspection also revealed that the car driven by the suspect is also under a fake registration number. “Investigations revealed that the suspect had stolen the items from a shop in Tebrau, and is going to be resold, ” he said in a statement here on Saturday .

He added that a background check revealed that the suspect possessed five previous criminal records for the same offence of stealing. The suspect is currently under remand and the case is investigated under Section 29 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, that carries maximum RM1,000 fine or maximum one year jail or both, upon conviction.Article type: metered
