Two of Malaysia’s most recognisable names in fashion have come together to launch face masks that send a message. Named #UnityMasks, the designs primarily feature the Malaysian and state flags. “These face masks are by Malaysians for Malaysians, ” reads the statement on Looi’s website, where they are available for purchase. “Let us all be positive about our future, the future of Malaysia and our states.”The theme revolves around the tagline of “Protect, Unite, Remember”. It pays tribute to Malaysians who have stayed at home during the movement control order, as well as the frontliners battling the Covid-19 pandemic.
Besides inspiring a sense of togetherness, the collaboration aims at giving back to society. According to the website, 10% of sales proceeds will be donated to charitable causes in Malaysia. "This project aims to provide positivity, state and national pride and unity in these times," states both Tom and Looi.The #UnityMasks are described as “not a medical mask”. Sold as a pack of two, they can be washed and reused. Each one has a pocket for an optional filter, and comes with an adjustable nose wire and elastic ear band.
