PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is ready to assist Papua New Guinea in dealing with the aftermath of a devastating landslide, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim .

In a Facebook post on Saturday , Anwar said that Malaysia stands ready to provide assistance in Papua New Guinea."My thoughts are with the people of Papua New Guinea following the devastating landslide that has claimed over a hundred lives in Enga province. "Taking place in a remote, mountainous and rugged region in the early hours of Friday morning, the humanitarian response to this tragedy will be especially challenging," he said.

It was reported on Friday that a massive landslide is feared to have killed hundreds of people after it struck remote villages in Papua New Guinea, local officials and aid agencies said. The landslide buried more than 100 homes after it struck early Friday morning in the highlands of Enga.Papua New Guinea has a population of nearly 10 million people and is located north of Australia.
