Malaysia has expressed its interest in hosting Seatrade Cruise Asia 2026 to demonstrate its commitment to promoting the cruise industry as a potential economic catalyst for the country, according to the Ministry of Transport (MOT). Minister of Transport Anthony Loke, who is Malaysia's first Minister of Transport, attended the annual Seatrade Cruise Asia 2024 conference in Miami, Florida, and announced the intention after attending the four-day conference starting on April 8th. "Minister of Transport (Loke) has conveyed Malaysia's seriousness in becoming a major cruise destination through a delegation to Seatrade Cruise Global 2024," according to MOT in a statement today. Seatrade Cruise Asia is an annual conference that brings together industry experts from 80 cruise companies from 120 countries.

“Menteri Pengangkutan telah menyampaikan kesungguhan Malaysia untuk menjadi destinasi pelayaran utama melalui delegasi ke Seatrade Cruise Global 2024,” menurut MOT dalam satu kenyataan hari ini. Menurut MOT, Loke turut mempelawa pengendali kapal pelayaran yang menghadiri persidangan itu untuk memanfaatkan infrastruktur pelabuhan pelayaran di Malaysia antaranya Langkawi Cruise Terminal, Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal di Pulau Pinang, Port Klang Cruise Terminal, Melaka International Cruise Terminal serta beberapa pelabuhan di Sabah dan Sarawak di sepanjang pesisiran Laut China Selatan.

MOT turut memaklumkan kementerian itu bekerjasama rapat dengan Kementerian Pelancongan, Seni dan Budaya untuk menjadikan Malaysia sebagai destinasi homeport yang terpilih di rantau Asia-Pasifik.
