PETALING JAYA: Umno’s Shahrir Abdul Samad has criticised the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for issuing compounds against 80 individuals and companies said to have received funds from 1MDB.
Speaking to FMT, Shahrir said MACC had jumped the gun by listing him as a recipient of funds while the 1MDB trial was ongoing.Yesterday, MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya said the compounds were issued under Section 92 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
Besides Shahrir, nine other individuals, including Najib’s brother Nazir Razak and Pontian MP Ahmad Maslan, were issued compounds, along with 43 political entities and 23 companies. They are required to return the monies they received within two weeks or challenge the compound notice in court.
