JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested an assistant officer from the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAIJ) for requesting and receiving a bribe worth RM130,000.

Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias, in a statement Tuesday said that investigations revealed that the suspect had asked and received bribes from a few contractors as a favor for getting supply works projects at the department.

The 37-year-old woman, who was working as an assistant officer in the Islamic Affairs department, was arrested at about 3pm Tuesday at the MACC Johor office to help investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009, which carries a fine up to five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, and imprisonment not exceeding 20 years.
