KOTA KINABALU: A former government servant who gave a government contract worth RM63,000 to his brother's company has been arrested by graft investigators.

Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission sources said that the suspect, a 37-year-old, who was working for a Federal Government agency, had given the contract to supply bee-based products, livestock and other programs to the company owned by his brother.

Sources said that the two brothers were arrested Monday at the MACC Sandakan office when they were called up to assist in their investigations. The alleged incidents occurred between 2018 and 2019 when the civil servant was serving the Federal Government agency. Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy, when contacted, confirmed that the two brothers were arrested for investigations under MACC Act involving abuse of power, as well as criminal breach of trust under the Penal Code.

He said both men were released on MACC bail and were scheduled to be charged in the Sandakan Special Corruption Court on April 21, 2022.
