FRANKFURT: European airline giant Lufthansa warned Wednesday that a billionaire investor could block a €9 billion pandemic rescue plan agreed with the German state.
Only a simple majority is needed for approval if the holders of more than 50% of shares vote, while lower participation ups the threshold to two thirds. In an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung daily published late Tuesday, rail industry billionaire Thiele said he had increased his stake in Lufthansa in recent weeks to 15%.
“It’s conceivable that we can discuss and clear up where there is still room for manoeuvre” before the June 25 meeting, he said.
