GEORGE TOWN: German Karlheinz Ernst Goltz instantly fell in love with Penang island during his first visit back in 1972.

For almost 50 years, he has been calling the state his second home just to escape the winter in Germany every year.

“The people, hospitality, food and the warm weather are among the reasons why I fell in love with Penang.“I am glad to be back to meet up with my friends whom I have made over the years,” said the 90-year-old when met recently while taking a walk along the Tanjung Bungah beach with his wife Nguyan Tho Quy, 67.His romance with Penang island began when he first saw a brochure promoting the state’s tourism more than 50 years ago.
