"As announced by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng during the Budget 2020 presentation, the government intends to proceed with the project. The details of the project will be discussed and finalised by Cabinet in the next one or two weeks.
"Once a decision has been made, I will notify my Singaporean counterpart first, since this is a bilateral project, before an announcement is made… in Johor Baru before the Oct 31 deadline," he added. Also present were state Public Works, Transportation and Infrastructure Committee chairman Mohd Solihan Badri; LPJ chairman Rosnan Fathal; and LPJ general manager Muhammad Razif Ahmad.
The deadline for the suspension of the RTS project was initially set for Sept 30, but last month, Singapore’s Ministry of Transport announced that the date had been extended to Oct 31. The suspension was made at the request of the Malaysian government, which wants more time to decide on whether to proceed with it, or to make changes to the initial proposal.
The RTS, which is aimed at easing congestion at the Johor Causeway, will link Bukit Chagar in Johor Baru and Woodlands in Singapore.
