Local authorities have no power to shut factories, says Selangor exco

The power to issue a closure order on factories to curb the spread of Covid-19 lies with the federal government, not state authorities, says Selangor exco Ng Sze Han. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, July 14, 2021.

LOCAL authorities in Selangor have no power to issue a closure order on factories to curb the spread of Covid-19 in their areas as the power lies with the federal government, state local government and public transport committee chairman Ng Sze Han said today. He said Section 107 of the Local Government Act 1976 did not elaborate on the powers of a local authority to issue a closure order on factories.
