GEORGE TOWN: Plastic beverage bottles, cigarette butts, plastic pieces, and food wrappers were among the rubbish thrown away by tourists along Lone Pine and Golden Sands beach over the weekend.

"On Monday morning, a team of ten Penang Island City Council personnel went to the beach, collected about 1.5 tonnes of rubbish," said MBPP spokesperson.

In a statement on Monday in its Facebook, MBPP said the irresponsible act of visitors at the beach had dirtied the area with rubbish. The statement said MBPP personnel took about five hours to clear the rubbish and clean the beach area. MBPP called on the public not to repeat such incidents and hoped that those visiting tourist destination areas behaved responsibly and took care of the cleanliness of the area.Article type: metered
