As part of Microsoft's legal battle to acquire Activision Blizzard, the supposed mid-generation upgrade of the Xbox Series X, codenamed Brooklin, came to light. That was thought to be released this year, but more recent leaks suggest that there's a digital edition of the current console, also with a release window of this year. In fact, it may be out as soon as between June and July of 2024.
These images come courtesy of eXputer, showing a console that just basically just like the current Xbox Series X, only with the white colour of the Series S and the absence of an optical drive. Beyond what is visible on the outside, it has a few upgrades to the internal components, like its heastink. The Verge has corroborated the report, citing documents that describe the changes to the console.
The original report notes that due to the missing optical drive, this digital edition of the Xbox Series X will be priced between US$50 and US$100 less than the original, which retails at US$499 . This does mean that it will be undercutting Brooklin which was said to also get an unchanged US$499 price tag.
