Gajah jantan Pygmy ditemui mati berhampiran tebing Sungai Udin, Dumpas, Kalabakan Tawau, pada 26 Sept lalu.
Menurut Ketua Polis Daerah Beluran, Supt Kasim Muda, bangkai haiwan itu ditemukan tanpa gading dan dipercayai telah mati lima hari lalu. “Semasa bedah siasat telah mengesan beberapa luka lama dipercayai kesan tembakan pada bahagian punggung gajah tersebut namun tidak menembusi bahagian kulit. Punca kematian masih belum dikenal pasti,” katanya dalam kenyataan di sini.
Siasatan dijalankan di bawah Seksyen 25 Enakmen Pemuliharaan Hidupan Liar 1997 kerana memburu haiwan dilindungi sepenuhnya tanpa kebenaran Jabatan Hidupan Liar Sabah, katanya.
