NSTregion Labuan Bajo set for tourism boom

President Joko Widodo, known as Jokowi, said development needed to be hastened so the tourism destination could be ready to host international events, according toThe president was in Labuan Bajo, the gateway to the popular Komodo National Park, on a two-day visit with some cabinet ministers since Monday and had discussed the development of the area into a “super premium” tourist destination to lure more foreign visitors.

During his visit, Jokowi presented land certificates to residents and told them that the government planned to upgrade Labuan Bajo to accommodate more international tourists who would bring economic growth and welfare for the local people. The president also asked Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya to establish a nursery to produce around five to seven million trees each year so that the ecosystem in Labuan Bajo could be preserved.
