MTUC Penang says the minister interfered with the court by directing it to dispose of cases with 12 months.

The Penang division of the Malaysian Trades Union Congress has expressed shock that the very bastion of justice for labour issues, the Industrial Court, allegedly abdicated its jurisdiction to comply with a directive from the human resources minister.

He said this in reference to the recent address in Parliament by the MP for Kapar, Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid of PKR, on the conduct of the presiding chairperson of the Industrial Court in a case involving Megasteel Sdn. Bhd. In his Parliament address on July 17, Abdullah Sani to dispose of cases within 12 months was unfair to the employees, and strongly urged Kulasegaran to investigate the matter.

He MTUC Penang is pondering whether the Industrial Court should continue to be placed under the jurisdiction of a political apppointee, the human resources minister."On this score, MTUC Penang Division recalls that there was a proposal, a long time ago, to migrate the Industrial Court to be structured as a division of the High Court of Malaya," Veeriah said.
