Unit Komunikasi Korporat KPM dalam satu kenyataan berkata, ia mengambil kira pendekatan penyampaian yang lebih mudah difahami, selain tidak membebankan murid serta guru.“Perancangan pengenalan tulisan khat ini sudah dilaksanakan melalui semakan semula kurikulum sejak 2014.“Pengenalan tulisan khat ini bertujuan untuk menerapkan nilai-nilai warisan bahasa Melayu dan identiti negara,” katanya.“Ia sejajar dengan kedudukan bahasa Melayu sebagai bahasa kebangsaan dan bahasa perpaduan.
“Selain daripada itu, tulisan ini juga terdapat pada jata negara, jata negeri-negeri dan wang kertas Ringgit Malaysia,” katanya. Kenyataan itu turut memaklumkan, KPM komited untuk bersama-sama membina Malaysia yang memiliki persefahaman dan pengetahuan kukuh terhadap warisan kebangsaan. Terdahulu, media melaporkan 138 pemimpin akar umbi termasuk 13 anggota Dewan Undangan Negeri DAP menggesa Kabinet daripada parti itu membantah rancangan memperkenalkan tulisan khat untuk sekolah vernakular melalui satu kenyataan bersama.
Kumpulan itu berkata, pihaknya mengakui tulisan khat mempunyai nilai artistik, namun orang ramai harus digalakkan untuk menghargainya sendiri dan bukan untuk dijadikan sebagai dasar.
