KUALA LUMPUR: Police will not hesitate to clamp down hard on those spreading fake news and threatening public order.

City police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said in light of the political scenario as well as the resignation of the Prime Minister on Monday , they have detected several rumours being circulated claiming Kuala Lumpur was not safe."We will continuously monitor security aspects and are on standby to ensure public order and safety is guaranteed," he said in a statement on Monday.

"The public must not spread false information and especially linked to racial and religious sensitivities," he said. Comm Mazlan added that the police would not compromise and would take stern action according to the available laws against anyone who tries to disturb public order. He also urged anyone with any enquiries or information to contact the police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or head to the nearest police station.
