Ken Yon and Jing Wen lifted the titles in contrasting styles in the first leg of the Victor National Under-18 Championships at the Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara yesterday. Second seed Ken Yon defeated Justin Hoh Shou Wei 21-13,22-20 in a 35-minute boys’ singles final while Jing Wen upstaged top seed Tan Zhing Yi 22-20,21-14,21-11 in a match that was stretched to one hour.Just a week ago, Ken Yon had finished fourth in a ranking tournament behind Kok Jing Hong, Mohd Fazriq Mohd Razif and Justin but yesterday, he redeemed himself.Although happy with the win, the 16-year-old Jing Wen said she could have done better.

“I did not perform well in the earlier rounds, I will go back to the drawing board to improve further, ” she said.
